Sarracenia X Hinomaru

$49.00

Sarracenia are North American pitcher plants. They grow in wetlands along East to South coast of the United States. S. X Hinomaru is one of the countless hybrids created by Hirofumi Doi, the legendary Japanese horticulturist. It is named “Hinomaru” for the bright red lip which resembles the red circle in Japanese flag, depicting the “Rising Sun”. It is a vigorous grower. You will be receiving a division of a rhizome with at least one growth point.

Sarracenia are good companion plants to Venus flytraps as they are often found growing side by side in the wild. Like Venus flytraps, they need a cold dormancy during the winter to store energy for next year. Don’t be alarmed if they start to wither as the temperature gets colder. This is a natural process for them. During the dormancy, keep them in a unheated garage or in a refrigerator. Take them outside in spring when there is no chance of frost. See care sheets for “American Pitcher Plants” and “Indoor Dormancy” or “Outdoor Dormancy” at the courtesy of the NECPS.
